Side-splitting, but very fair and balanced side-splitting

I found this over at Dennis Perrin's terrific Red State Son blog. It's Fox News with a laugh track. Much of the commentary that mystified me now makes a lot more sense with the laugh track (and, it ranks favorably with some of the best fiction writing). Bill O'Reilly's sense of comic timing is quite good.

Welcome Back Connor...

One of the CDs that brother Jonathon just mixed and quasi-produced and engineered is by Mike Connor, who's been playing music in the area for thirty-some years but has never released a solo CD. Until now. Saturday Jon and I will be playing keyboards and joining Mike Connor's band for a CD release show at the Sioux Falls Orpheum. The concert will be shared with East of Westreville, a local folk group featuring Boyd Bristow and Brian and Kaija Bonde.

For any one who's interested in hearing Jon's handiwork come to life, I recommend this concert. It's a bunch of different styles than what Jon and I normally perform, which is part of what makes this kind of thing so much fun.

Saturday night. 8 o'clock. Tickets start at $15.

Somehow, our accents got switched.

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Midland

"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I've always called it "Brokaw," but, let's be honest, I don't know anybody that sounds like him...

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak "Standard English straight out of the dictionary" but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like "Are you from Wisconsin?" or "Are you from Chicago?" Chances are you call carbonated drinks "pop."

They're just going in alphabetical order now...

Dateline Hy-Vee, November 9:

"Hold On Tight", ELO, and "Hold The Line" by Toto.

Two near-Yacht Rock moments, fellas, if I do say so myself.

Images of Spooncat Past

Here we see The Amazing Bronko, resembling former Minnesota Vikings head coach Jerry Burns, waiting for the rain to stop so that Spooncat's performance at the Rapid City Heritage Festival can begin. The rain did stop, and things went swimmingly.

We played in Spearfish, South Dakota. Here is Bronko once again, posing in the motor lodge bathroom with a cup of soap, a would-be urine sample of sorts.

This image is from the recording sessions for Navigate the Fabulous, at Jaee Sporté Studio on Minnesota Avenue in Sioux Falls. In between takes, the young Rainmaker offers an uncanny imitation of Truckdrivin' Omar.

In the summer of 1996 before our first performance, this snapshot of Truckdrivin' Omar was taken during a smoke break at our first rehearsal space, the legendary bus barn on West 12th Street.
